Local blogger, Mandy Bly of Buffalo Pizza Blog, has challenged nationally-ranked competitive eater, Megabyte Ronnie, to eat three large buffalo-style pizzas within 30 minutes.
The Buffalo Pizza Blogger has selected her top three favorite Buffalo-style pizzas for Megabyte Ronnie to devour. In order to meet Buffalo-style criteria, the large pizzas will consist of medium-to-thick crust, red sauce, mozzarella cheese and cup-and-char pepperoni, of course.
The local pizza joints participating in the Buffalo Pizza Eating Challenge are: Carbone’s Pizza (located in South Buffalo and Lovejoy), Mustachio’s Pizza (located in Kenmore) and Lovejoy Pizza (located in Buffalo and Lovejoy).
“Buffalo-style pizza has been getting some serious national attention lately, so I am highlighting the ones that do it best. I know Megabyte Ronnie is up for the challenge, so we’ll see if he can handle the crispy, thicker crust and charred pepperoni,” says Bly.
Ronnie Hartman, who goes by Megabyte Ronnie on and off the wrestling and eating stage, is the 18th-ranked competitive eater in the world with Major League Eating. Dedicating half a decade to professional eating, Hartman most recently finished 10th place at the 2019 Nathan’s 4th of July Hot Dog Eating Contest, competing against 11-time champion, Joey Chestnut. Hartman is an aspiring professional wrestler as well.
Hartman was drawn to Buffalo after attending Buffalo’s National Chicken Wing Fest and will be back again to compete on Labor Day Weekend. “Wing Fest really convinced me to move to Buffalo,” says Hartman. And what a better combination than slamming down some pizzas a week out from Wing Fest?
The Buffalo Pizza Eating Challenge will take place on August 24th, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Carbone’s Pizza’s South Buffalo location (568 South Park Ave, Buffalo, NY 14204). The public is welcome to attend the challenge. The challenge will also be live streamed on Facebook and Instagram through @buffalopizzablogger and @theronniehartman.
